Roxy training diary month 40
September 2006

Sept 10.  Video links to last weekend's agility runs have been added to the Sept 2-3 entry.

Sept 4.  The North Ogden pool, on the last day of the season before closing, held a "Canine Kerplunk" on Labor Day from 5 to 8 pm.

It was an open swim for dogs and their owners.

The article in Thursday's paper said, "the pool will be cleaned properly afterward."

That was a source of much amusement in our house, but then Roxy decided to drop a sloppy bowel movement poolside and it wasn't so funny anymore.

The dogs had fun, even though we had become the subject of pointing and whispers.

Roxy hasn't had much of a chance to swim since her misspent youth and so it was good to see that she still had skills.  She got to try out the water slide, although it wasn't her favorite thing in the whole world.

(She tried to go up the slide, and so I took her up the steps and sent her down.  Rosemary was there to see the look on her face, which apparently was Not Pleased.  So of course Jim sent her down one more time, until Rosemary made him stop.)

Sept 2-3.  We spent both Saturday and Sunday at a Sandy AKC Agility Trial.  No, it wasn't all gritty and such; rather it was a trial held in Sandy, Utah.  Roxy did pretty well on Saturday, and was able to get her fifth Novice Agility leg in standard.  While she's still not ready for prime time, most of her confidence has returned, leaving us to work on attention and focus.  One of our agility friends, who is 17, was at the start line when the dog jumped up and chipped her incisor with his head.  Her parents were out of town, so I took her to the dentist to get that fixed up while Roxy ran Jumpers with Rosemary.  They did pretty well, but had a knocked bar so didn't qualify.  Roxy was not as focused on Sunday and had some "issues" during both runs.

Dylan had his first outing in a real trial since his June surgery.  We have a video of him, too.  Rosemary is running him in the 12" jump height (Novice Preferred), so he doesn't have a lot of high jumping nor a lot of twists and turns.  We ran him only twice over the weekend, to let him slide into it easily.  He was fantastic, getting a qualifying score and first place (of two dogs) in both runs.    Credit for these really nice videos of Roxy and Dylan goes to Don Hansen, Kennel Boy Video Productions, LLC.

Sept 1.  Conclusive evidence for a lack of irony in America today.

Bumper sticker on left-hand side of car in parking lot: "Pro-Life"

Bumper sticker on right-hand side of same bumper: "Kick Their Ass, Take Their Gas: Patriotic American" (with a little flag, too)

If only I had been carrying my camera at the time.

Besides which: shouldn't it be "Kick Their Asses, Take Their Gases"?
